Portfolio for the 2014 annual report of the program “Promoting Qualitative Health Services” (PQHS) funded by the European Union and implemented by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.  The program is aiming to improve the access of health care and to integrate the management of health system in the States of Kassala, Gedaref and Red Sea in Eastern Sudan. Among its many synergic activities – cooperation with local ministries and authorities, rehabilitation and construction of civil works, provision of medical equipment, drugs and technical assistance, support of health education through grants and trainings - this selection is focused on the work of trained midwives and health assistants who can assist at home or in small health centres beneficiaries living in the remotest areas.
